Nova Name: Pagan
Real Name: For Halger
Eruption: Accident
Nature: Traditionalist
Allegiance: Four Horsemen, The Apostle
Concept: Ancient God
Archetype: Stage I Marvel
Background: A Finnish reindeer herder, Halger had a hard life that consisted of 10 month winters and year round heavy drinking. Having more than enough free time and several government education programs to take advantage of, Halger took correspondence courses and earned several equivalency degrees by the time 1999 rolled around. To supplement his income he would drive south in the dead of winter and engage in some illegal logging. He would meet up with other men from the tundra and they would take money from the logging companies to go out into harvest protected lands. It was during one of these trips that Halger's SUV went dead on him. He spent more than six hours trying to fix the SUV instead of making the trek to civilization. He would have died if he hadn't erupted.
Being a self educated peasant Halger borrowed from many ancient religions of his ancestors to build himself a reasonable interpretation of his powers and appearance. He fancied himself a god even from the start. In short order he managed to arrange for himself a cult from amongst the local herders. Mostly to have sex with their wives and receive a heavy dose of ego stroke complete with human sacrifice and other rituals that would ensure that his cultists would never betray him.
When the Teragen began receiving exposure following 2003, Halger, know calling himself Nymir decided to join. He contacted Count Orzaiz who put him into contact with Scripture. During his time with Scripture he met Delorimier whose passion and dedication to Mal impressed upon him that there are definite stages to divinity. Under Delorimier's tutelage he sought to expand his abilities beyond the physical and though a late bloomer he managed to undergo Chysalis in 2010. He seeks to one day attain the level of godhood that Mal enjoys. He believes that The Apostle is the man to guide him in that quest. Since meeting and talking to Scripture and The Apostle he believes that Delorimier is more dedicated and passionate about Mal's divinity and the place of other novas in that divinity. Scripture is entirely too passive for Halger's tastes.
Having decided to throw his lot in with Delorimier, Halger returned to Finland and changed his entire identity. He dropped the identity of Nymir and begen calling himself Old Man Winter for when the media would find him. He took his cult underground and in secret he renamed himself Pagan as a sign of his rebirth and renunciation of old religions.
As a member of Delorimier's elite, Pagan denies any current association with the Teragen. The media knows him as a frail nova from the northern regions of Finland with the ability to control some aspects of the weather. When conducting interviews with media and representatives of Utopia or any national interest he wears a formless robe of coarse material and stoops forward to appear small and frail. He downplays the extent of his powers, claiming that he is only capable of making the harsh winters milder for himself and his nearest neighbors. Utopia and the Directive are not very interested in him for his apparent lack of power and obvious physical mutations, while the media leaves him alone because apart from his value as a human interest story he appears to lead a very dull existence and espouses no strong opinions.
Roleplaying Notes: Pagan has a general moral lassitude that lets him act out in a manner that is most pragmatic and self serving. He believes himself to be prudent though and doesn't allow his cultist followers to offer him human sacrifice more than once a year. His appearance is more Celtic Frost Giant than Nordic forest spirit, but he has taken bits and pieces from various mythologies to make himself a god of a mythos he enjoys rather than an accurate one.
In battle Pagan uses his command of weather and ice to confuse and distract his enemies. Under cover of fog, icy winds and swirling snow he then grows to enormous size and attacks with his attuned battle axes. His physical superiority and general immunity to harm make him somewhat overconfident in battle. Once engaged he usually never backs down and fights until incapacitated.
